Abstract:

Instrumentation is the fundamental technology and essential equipment for intelligent manufacturing, scientific research, environmental monitoring, healthcare, national defense construction, and so forth. As an important support toward achieving a national innovation strategy, instrumentation development determines the level of strategic new industries, which include the innovative information industry, high-end equipment-manufacturing industry, energy industry, materials industry, and so forth. This paper analyzes development trends of instrumentation engineering science and technology to 2035. Within the requirements of digital, intelligent, and networked instruments, key technologies and future trends are depicted for three main aspects: intelligent instrumentation, medical instruments, and micro-electro-mechanical systems (MEMS). Development strategies and suggestions for China’s instrumentation engineering science and technology to 2035 are also put forward.

Abstract: The recent decade has witnessed an upsurge in the demands of intelligent and simplified Internet of Things (IoT) networks that provide ultra-low-power communication for numerous miniaturized devices. Although the research community has paid great attention to wireless protocol designs for these networks, researchers are handicapped by the lack of an energy-efficient software-defined radio (SDR) platform for fast implementation and experimental evaluation. Current SDRs perform well in battery-equipped systems, but fail to support miniaturized IoT devices with stringent hardware and power constraints. This paper takes the first step toward designing an that satisfies the ultra-low-power or even battery-free requirements of intelligent and simplified . To achieve this goal, the core technique is the effective integration of μW-level in our SDR to sidestep power-hungry active radio frequency chains. We carefully develop a novel circuit design for efficient energy harvesting and power control, and devise a competent solution for eliminating the harmonic and mirror frequencies caused by hardware. We evaluate the proposed SDR using different modulation schemes, and it achieves a high data rate of 100 kb/s with power consumption less than 200 μW in the active mode and as low as 10 μW in the sleep mode. We also conduct a case study of railway inspection using our platform, achieving 1 kb/s battery-free data delivery to the monitoring unmanned aerial vehicle at a distance of 50 m in a real-world environment, and provide two case studies on smart factories and logistic distribution to explore the application of our platform.

Abstract:

The evolution of gear measurement technology in the past 100 years is fully reviewed, and 6 key issues related to gear metrology are listed. Emphases are laid on the development of gear measurement principles, the evolution of technical measures realizing them and the interpretation & utilization of measurement results. Meanwhile, the principle, configuration and features of present-day CNC Gear Measuring Center are introduced. A few of new phenomena in the field of gear measurement technology are remarked, and some research topics in the near future are proposed.

Crop damage monitoring using remote sensing in January and February in South China in 2008

Wu Bingfang,Li Qiangzi,Chi Yaobin,Huang Jinliang,Zhou Wancun,Zhang Weiqi,Wu Shuang

Strategic Study of CAE 2008, Volume 10, Issue 6,   Pages 63-69

Abstract:

The author monitored the crop damage using remote sensing combined with ground survey. First, the author extracted the snow disaster area using multi-phase BJ-1 multi-spectrum data and MODIS data. At same time, 3 ground teams were send to investigate the crop planting proportion and crop damage ratio. Then, crop damage area was calculated using arable area multiplied by crop planting proportion and crop damage ratio in this paper. The results showed that there were 429.76×104 hm2 crops were damaged in Jiangxi, Hubei, Hunan and Guizhou province. Ground survey showed that the main crop-damage area lied in winter wheat and seed rape planting area. The most serious area lied in high-elevate mountain area. For damaged crops, winter wheat was just affected a little because it was in greening stage, and seed rape was effected heavily for in flowing and jointing stage. In southern area of Jiangxi and Hunan province, crop damage area were very small because many cropland were in fallow.

The feasibility of accurate earthquake prediction by HRT wave and examples of strong earthquakes including Wenchuan Earthquake (M =8)

Strategic Study of CAE 2009, Volume 11, Issue 6,   Pages 111-122

Abstract:

The method of earthquake short-term and impending prediction by using tidal wave (abbr HRTwave method) is a new, quantitative technology of simultaneous determination of the location, magnitude and time of an earthquake. The earthquake preparation processes and precursor mechanism are considered as a "blackbox" .Using the modern control theory in system recognition, we can calibrate this "black box"  mathematically with different input and output parameters. We regard the tidal force as our "input signal"  while geoelectric response to the tidal forces is considered as an "output" .

Frontiers of Information Technology & Electronic Engineering 2016, Volume 17, Issue 6,   Pages 516-526 doi: 10.1631/FITEE.1500235

Abstract: Accurate head poses are useful for many face-related tasks such as face recognition, gaze estimation, and emotion analysis. Most existing methods estimate head poses that are included in the training data (i.e., previously seen head poses). To predict head poses that are not seen in the training data, some regression-based methods have been proposed. However, they focus on estimating continuous head pose angles, and thus do not systematically evaluate the performance on predicting unseen head poses. In this paper, we use a dense multivariate label distribution (MLD) to represent the pose angle of a face image. By incorporating both seen and unseen pose angles into MLD, the head pose predictor can estimate unseen head poses with an accuracy comparable to that of estimating seen head poses. On the Pointing’04 database, the mean absolute errors of results for yaw and pitch are 4.01 and 2.13 , respectively. In addition, experiments on the CAS-PEAL and CMU Multi-PIE databases show that the proposed dense MLD-based head pose estimation method can obtain the state-of-the-art performance when compared to some existing methods.
